Marius Lut (1976, The Netherlands) is a painter who puts the emphasis on one color while using abstract formats. On a large canvas these differ from pink or cyan to green to fluorescent yellow in several densities. The form and proportion and especially the negative form of the canvas make the surroundings of the painting participate strongly. Through careful experiments with transparency and using pieces of tape (sometimes left behind on the painting) Lut creates his very own image. Luts paintings are as direct as a logo. Minimal and with shapes that sway between geometrical and organic. At ‘early’ perception the works are beautiful, simple and fresh but by using ‘late' perception you are forced to look again.
