Anticipating Ever glass and wood, 2008.
As his work for Disguise, the art of attracting and deflecting attention (curated by Joost Bosland), Simon Gush placed hand-blown glass panes in front of one of the gallery windows. The show was the first show in the Michael Stevenson Gallery’s new space in Woodstock in Cape Town. Woodstock is an area undergoing rapid gentrification. The work was intended to draw the viewers’ attention to the process going on outside. Because of the hand-blown glass panes, the view of the neighbourhood was distorted. The glass also served as a reference to the first glass works in South Africa, which were located in Woodstock.
