Residual Stress glass (Prince Rupert’s drop), 2009. Residual Stress comprises of a Prince Rupert’s Drop. Prince Rupert’s Drops are a phenomenon that happen when molten glass drops into cold water. The result is that the glass is under extreme stress, making the large end extremely strong under compression. However, if the thin tail is broken, the stresses in the glass are released, causing the drop to explode. The work comes with a condition that the artwork must be displayed for no less and no more than 21 consecutive days per calendar year. The display time cannot be accumulated from one year to the next. The artwork must be kept in a safety deposit box in a designated bank when not on display.
