No View, The Radio XXXVII
David Fenech + Klimperei
For West Den Haag
David Fenech is a French musician living in Paris. Next to his skills as a multi-instrumentalist, he uses the recording studio as an instrument working with a large panel of recording techniques. Klimperei is the moniker of French musician Christophe Petchanatz, currently living in Lyon, employing toy instruments and a lot of acoustic recordings to create melodically focused music. Working remotely over the course of the pandemic, the two sent samples and snippets to each other of recordings consisting of a great and diverse variety of musical instruments, either directly referencing the genre they derive from or being pushed to whole new territories. The result was their debut album 'Rainbow de Nuit', an incredibly layered and meticulously arranged assemblage of music, field recordings, mutilated voices and anything else they felt necessary to include. The recordings, all instrumental yet with strong narrational properties, create images of a traveling caravan, each song a character of the nomadic group carrying their own personal histories and references to their individual culture, yet committed to the greater identity of the group. For their contribution to No View, The Radio, three of these pieces are combined with two original ones, debuting along side the visual aid of the French illustrator Benoît Guillaume, lending his aesthetic to strengthen the musical narratives of David Fenech and Klimperei.

About the series: No View, The Radio
The arts are taking a break. Theaters, museums, concert halls and galleries are closed. To a large extent, the art that is so desperately needed right now is inaccessible. Imagine being quarantined at home without films, without books, without music. Though we may not access the art, we can still think about it. The enforced rupture of this isolation can also be an opportune moment to reflect on and from, the arts. Every Friday for the upcoming weeks we will showcase original musical works by different artists, selected by Alex Andropoulos.
