3.7‰ ▶ Rashid Novaire
Selectie van 26 boeken uit de bibliotheek Evert van Uitert.
In the 3.7‰ series, we invite special guests to select their favorite 26 books from the library collection of art historian Evert van Uitert (1936–2021). These books are personally annotated by the guests and exhibited on the mezzanine of the Alphabetum at West Den Haag.
For the second edition, the selection was made by writer Rashid Novaire. On the evening of February 28, Novaire will introduce the project with a performance-lecture, accompanied by a live performance by saxophonist Sanne Landvreugd.
In his work, Rashid Novaire, like Evert van Uitert, connects art, literature, and identity. While Novaire’s novels delve deeply into personal and cultural identities in a globalised world, Van Uitert’s studies and collection did emphasise universal themes and sources of inspiration that have shaped art history. Novaire’s novels revolve around the power of personal stories. He explores how identity emerges through the interplay between individual experiences and cultural backgrounds. This theme aligns with Van Uitert’s approach, in which he analysed artists’ observations to demonstrate how they contributed to a universal language of emotion and expression. A perspective that highlights how personal stories can be both unique and universal.
For this edition of 3.7‰, Novaire has selected 26 books, presented in a compact display on the mezzanine of the Alphabetum. His selection reflects a personal approach that reveals much about his interests and vision. At the same time, it offers an opportunity to get to know the writer Novaire better and explore his world. West is publishing a new essay that Novaire has written especially for this presentation.
The opening of the presentation will be accompanied by a performance-lecture by Novaire, with live music by saxophonist Sanne Landvreugd.
Rashid Novaire (1979) is an author of prose and theater. His work has been nominated twice for the Libris Literature Prize. In the coming years, Rashid will also be active as a writer and producer with the collective de Theaterstraat.
