We would be very happy if you would join us for lunch and be a part of West Den Haag’s new program Home & Away on Thursday 12 June from 12:30-16:30 h.

The first in the program is Home & Away #I: The Archive, where we begin at West Den Haag by having lunch together whilst looking at the exhibition Autonomy Exchange Archive with works by Paul Branca, Fawn Krieger, and David Horvitz. Taking from their discussion published in the Autonomy Exchange Archive booklet Home & Away #I: The Archive considers the surplus and remains of an artistic practice, as each artist deals with the question of the document, the generation of their own personal archive as well as making productive the leftovers of an artwork.

After lunch, artist Rod Summers will connect his own practice and personal archive to the ideas of the exhibition by delving into artistic self-archiving as well as the historical implications of legacy and preservation of an artwork and artistic practice. Following on with the question ‘at what point does a document become artwork’, we will transition our discussion with Rod Summers to the second part of day by taking a short walk to Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie (RKD) — Netherlands Institute For Contemporary Art History. We will end the day by meeting Marie-Francoise Borg to take a tour of the archive to locate the moment of transition from artwork to documentation.

About Home & Away program:
West Den Haag is a presentation space that centers upon artistic practices unknown in the Netherlands, whilst broadening the discourse around the role of art in society. The program of Home & Away connects to West Den Haag’s exhibition policy by locating the intersection between being at home and travelling away to explore the consequences that each condition places upon creating and viewing art. Through the program, West Den Haag hosts artist talks, readings, film screenings, and performative lectures at our home in Den Haag, or organizes excursions to visit interesting places and people.
