Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven and Ory Dessau + performance by Julie Cafmeyer

On Thursday, the 26th of October, West Den Haag will host a special event around the work of artist Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven, on the occasion of ALLES=GOED, her one-year exhibition at the art centre. The evening will stem from the artist’s Philosophical Rooms and her extensive HeadNurse project, both of which are represented in the exhibition at West. In her work, Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven injects sexual energy and motifs of femininity and the feminine body into the domains of philosophical thought, undermining the claim that rational reasoning is a disembodied, disinterested meditation.

The event will be moderated by curator Ory Dessau, who will shed a light on the links between the artist’s work and Friedrich Nietzsche’s critique of the history of European philosophy. The evening will also include a Q & A session with the artist, a reading of her texts referring to philosophy and philosophers, and a screening program of selected film and video works by the artist. In addition, the evening will be marked with a special performance by Belgian artist Julie Cafmeyer, whose work stretches and exaggerates some of the aspects Anne-Mie Van Kerckhoven has been developing in her practice throughout the years.
